The One Shocking Thought I Want To Leave You With This Year
Another year draws to a close. Another year of learning, growth, hard work. As you head to end of year breaks though, remember this powerful message from me to you. Beware. It might shock.
Yes, yes. I know. My usual headline. “Shocked me…changed my life….secret to success….blah blah blah…..” I do struggle a bit to come up with new ways to capture attention and get you to click on, to read on, to make a comment, to share. But here’s the point. Close to 7,000 people receive Possums every week now. And on average, around 3,500 of you actually read the bloody thing- every week. From all over the world.
So as you head to the break, one final thought from me.
THANK YOU
Thank you for being interested, for contributing and engaging, for sharing and supporting, for letting me creep into your lives- albeit briefly- every week.
I really, really appreciate your interest and support. I do not take it for granted. So long as you want to read this stuff, I’ll write it. I love sharing my thoughts, learnings, fears, excitements. Some no doubt resonate. Some just miss the mark.
So- thanks again. From my heart. Have a great break. And I will hopefully ‘see’ you back again in late January.
Chris
Thanks, for having interesting things to read. It’s why I click.
Thanks Stu!
And thanks to you Chris – some outstanding posts that I have shared with many over the year. Looking forward to your writing in 2014. Merry Christmas.
Thanks Alex!
Hi Chris,
Not to blow sunshine, but your posts are always thought provoking and I for one thoroughly enjoy your insights and commentary on life and the industry. While you write em, we’ll be reading them. Have a great Christmas and New Year!
Thank you, Gordon!
and thank you Chris for the insightful and inspiring reading.
Trish
Thanks Trish!!
Have a great Xmas break Chris!
Thanks Francesca!
Thank you, Chris, for taking the time to share your experiences and advice. I look forward to more Possums in the new year!
Thanks Michael!!
Chris, THANK YOU! I’m not sure how I stumbled onto your blog earlier in the year but I am always excited to see what you’ve written when the email drops into my inbox.
Quite a few things you have written have deeply resonated with me: bamboo bunch, leaving a legacy, being remembered for how you leave, Ataturk Hours and my personal favourite: When you’re green, you grow; when you’re ripe, you rot.
I look forward to hearing what you have to say in the new year and suspect, if my mates and colleagues are listening to me banging on about this blog, you’ll have a few more subscribers in the future.
Bianca- thanks! And thanks for spreading the word…Chris
Love! Thanks for sharing Chris. I started reading your blog after you spoke at the HR leaders conference in Bowral in October. Looking forward to reading your blog in 2014
Thanks Lisa- appreciated.
Well done Chris, you made me click through one more time in 2013! Merry Christmas and happy 2014.
John- YOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
And a wonderful festive season and 2014 to you too, Chris.
Yes, you do use schlock tactics sometimes, but more often than not there’s a deep message cunningly concealed in the hype. Otherwise we wouldn’t keep coming back to read you!
Best wishes
Tony
Thanks Tony- have a great break!
Nice shock Chris – thank you! Here’s to Wrestling Possums.
Have a safe and happy time over the festive season.
See you in 2014!
Thanks Garth!
Your blog is a great way to keep in touch with old friends and colleagues. CT Hew and Godfrey Scotchbrook say hi. Have a great new year, Eileen
Eileen- wow! How exciting for me to know you are still reading the blog! Pass on my best to Godfrey and CT. If it was not for Godfrey, I’d never have moved to Hong Kong in 1984 and my life would have been different. I have loved the life I have had since then…so thank you Godfrey! All the best Eileen. Chris
no thank you… it’s rare I actually want to read an email that comes into my inbox and relate to almost everything you say
merry xmas
Thanks Pamela- that’s great feedback. Thanks
Thank YOU for sharing your wise words and wisdom. Your articles are always a joy to read.

Chris,
Thanks for your honest insights and for the very “real” manner in which you express them and expose yourself in the process …… great to experience a pirate in full flight!
Merry Xmas
JM
Thanks Johnny!!
Happy and safe holidays to you and your family Chris. Thank you for writing and sharing – and can’t wait to see more in 2014!
Thanks Margaret!!
Dear Chris,
As I paraphased recently “You’re a better (organised) man than I am, Gunga Din!”
Inspirational thoughts and ideas are a wonderful tonic for everyone who thinks. But for a just a moment, we should think about the relentless DISCIPLINE it takes to do this every week – particularly when you’re a COO who already works 60 – 70+ hours a week!
Full points to Chris (and his helpers). Now it’s time for a rest. Merry Xmas…John
Thanks John!!!
Thanks for the insights and the laughs. See you in ’14.
Thanks Athan!
Chris – I read your blog every week and I tweet it out, share it on FB and on LinkedIn every week. I appreciate your honesty, your humility and your openness.
I think I originally spoke with you on the phone about 18 months ago and that is how I got onto this blog. Was it you who passed me on to a friend of yours called Simon here in Auckland?
Would be great to meet you in person some day. Have a fantastic break. You deserve it.
Cheers
Jayne
Thanks Jayne. I notice you retweet it weekly. Thankyou for that. I can’t recall introducing you to Simon- unless he works at jwt advertising? I would love to meet and will let you know when next I am in Auckland. Thanks again for all your support. Chris
And thank you too. You certainly do have some thought-provoking things to say and a straightforward way of putting them. Thanks for sharing.
Merry Christmas Claire xx
Thanks Claire!
Keep up the good work, look forward to reading more next year!
