How To Keep The Phone Ringing

I was reminded of the biggest driver of success when giving a speech while sick as a dog last week. It keeps my phone ringing. Do you do it?

I pulled this post yesterday just as Martine was pushing ’send’. I lost my nerve, fearing it sounded boastful. Forgive me please if it does. I don’t mean it to be. It’s just a reminder of what drives success. So here it is. Shared with love.

Now, my IQ is about average. (Apparently my EQ is much worse than that!). Here’s the point. I manage to continue to thrive in my little corner of my little industry because I commit to one habit. Muhammad Ali summed it up with this powerful statement:

Get Gritty To Be Future-Fit

Here’s the one habit that will keep each of us relevant and valuable during times of rapid change. Do you have it?

It’s the worst of times, and the best of times. Our worlds are transforming – and fast. Now artificial intelligence is at the centre of a new wave of change.

But change is our friend. The more technology changes work and roles, the more critical one thing we humans can do so much better than a machine becomes. Hone these skills to survive and thrive. Here is what we have that will save us.

Why I Will Never Achieve My Potential

I know I could achieve more. But I haven’t. And won’t. I know why. Will you suffer my fate?

I am so grateful for what I’ve managed to do and achieve in my little career to date. Yet I am plagued with a sense I missed the boat. It’s entirely my own doing. What shackles me, and continues to do so, is my obsession with an Aussie expression and attitude that has helped me – and through emotion and arrogance, has held me back. Here it is.

Inspiring Peak Performance, Every Time!

It’s 15 years ago this week that PK and I held the hands of Steve Lyons as he passed away in Kuala Lumpur from cancer. I recall the most powerful and inspiring habit Steve had. It defined him. And stays with me today. Do you do this? If not- start now!

You don’t remember what someone said, or what they did, but you always remember the way they made you feel. And Steve Lyons was an absolutely master at making you feel incredible. Steve made you feel everything and anything was possible- was within your grasp. He lifted your spirits, ambition, drive. He made your heart beat faster. All who were touched by Steve know exactly what I mean.

Here’s what Steve would do that was so inspiring. So simple. So powerful. Steve, quite simply:

An Addiction That Haunts Me. You Too?

I am outing myself today as an addict. It has me by the throat. But now I know how to straighten out. It will help you too. Promise.

I have ‘an addictive personality.’ Many vices wink at me, but I managed to keep them at bay. How? Because I know I have an addictive personality. So I am on my guard.

Except one. It’s a vice which I bet you are addicted to too. (Actually, I never bet. It’s too addictive). In your heart you know it has you by the throat. If you want to stop being an addict to it, then take this one, powerful step. Here it is.

You Will Have A Problem With This Position

Things never all go right for me. Something is always going wrong, somewhere. You too? I now have the insight on how to react to constant setbacks. Here it is.

The funds manager sat opposite me, drinking his morning coffee. “How’s the fund going?” I asked this now entrepreneur, who had started his own investment fund, managing other people’s (and his own) money. “Pretty good,” he replied, “except……” This insight gave me the clarity on how to approach setbacks and problems. This is what he told me.
